Host Families

The Student Life Office is seeking families who will join the Host Family Program. The program matches RCDS boarding students with local RCDS “host families.” While boarding students live in the RCDS dorm, host families provide an additional source of support and community for students who are away from home. Each host family/student partnership is unique and is based upon the preferences, interests, and availability of participants.

Host families:

  • Connect with boarding students via e-mail prior to the start of the school year to begin building a relationship.
  • Plan time with students (lunch, dinner, weekend stays, or a community event) at least once a month.
  • Include students, whenever possible, in holiday and family celebrations.

During the school year, the residential life team plans several fun socials with all of the boarding students and host families. We will start the fall trimester with a “Get Acquainted” event at the dormitory.

Both host families and boarding students are enriched by the friendships and cultural exchanges during their time together in this program. The most important aspect of the relationship is the foundation of trust and friendship which helps students thrive during their time at RCDS. Host families make them feel welcome and connected to RCDS and the local community. In turn, host families benefit from the exchange of ideas and cultures, and gain a wonderful new experience.

Expectations of Participants

Any household with a current RCDS student is eligible to be a host family. If your student is interested in making a deeper connection, the STUDENT2STUDENT program would be a great way to do that.
