This year’s team, stacked heavily with seniors, was the team to beat this season. With the early departure of Matt Hilgenberg, head coach for the past 4 years, Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher, Amanda Montgomery, took charge of the veteran team. Barnstable Academy, Green Meadow-Waldorf School and Community High School, were the teams the Cougars were up against this season. We played each school twice, once home and once away.

The strength of our starting line-up proved to be no match for Green Meadow-Waldorf and the Community School. Our forward strikers Cedric Bluman and Nathan Hasz were fed many scoring opportunities by our strong mid-fielders, Yun Soo Kim, Tae Hee Park, Chris Jin and Nicky Rocco, who were also able to hold possession of the ball for a majority of the games. Playing a huge role in keeping possession too, was our “Defensive Diamond Dynamos,” Uriel Eisen, Dong Gun Kim, Yeong Ung Lee and Marc Cohen and our last line of defense Goalkeeper, Derek Frelow. Our record this season was 4-2, the two losses coming from Barnstable Academy. Each game against them was hard fought, close battles that at any point could have gone either way.

Not only did we have a strong starting line-up but we also had a confident and talented group of upper and underclasspersons substitutes. These young men and women were Carly Avezzano, Sergei Bluman, Danielle Cacioppo, Brigid and Maeve Crispi, Chris Kim, Soo Min Kim, Jake Lederman, JD Linthon, Jae Hwan Lee, Jake Miller, Maryn and Nathan Paul, and Chemdiya Reed. Also showing her support was 7th grader, our Team Manager, Esther Ryu. These players will be the future of RCDS soccer in years to come.

The soccer team would like to thank all the fans; students, parents and faculty who came out and showed their support. The team would also like to thank Mike Avezzano, our new sports photographer. Also, be on the lookout for your RCDS Cougar’s on MSG Varsity, students Nathan Paul and Derek Frelow, filmed games and they should be available to watch in the next few months. But most importantly we would like to thank the seniors and wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.
